When the going gets tough… The girls go to Stobo
Case packed … goodie bags ready… The horn beeps…
It’s time to go! Four excited girls heading for an overnight stay at the renowned Stobo Castle in Peebleshire. The car journey was full of chat including “where’s the nearest pub”, “I’m going for a 6am swim”, “lets dance the dragon”. Might I add dancing the dragon is a fitness class that Stobo offer, it is not me being nasty in regards to the other girls dancing skills. An hour and zero wrong (who says girls can’t navigate… Oh iPhone I love you) turns later we have arrived into the sweeping driveway. I strongly resited the urge to call ‘honey I’m home’ throughout the whole building as I opened the front door. We were welcomed by a lovely lady and given an introduction to the spa. The only comparison I can make is to the scene in Anne when she is welcomed into daddy warbucks house. Fortunately i didn’t burst into song. A choice of three dining rooms, for breakfast and lunch we were welcome to dine in our robes, for dinner we must dress. A reading room full of current newspapers. A delightful covered courtyard area doubled as the spa reception and waiting area. All checked in and ready to go.
Needless to say we were tucked up in bed for 11pm thoroughly relaxed and although someone’s plans of visiting the nearest pub were dashed there was still hope for a 7am (yes i know, previously 6 but the pool opens at 7) swim.
Minus the disturbance of the room radio alarm going off at 1am I had a delightful sleep. So much so that the 7am swim was half an hour later than planned.
After breakfast I enjoyed two treatments, my first ever reflexology session and a half hour back massage. I had a little time on my own in-between treatments and took the opportunity to relax in the reading room. Wrapped in my robe, curled on the sofa in front of the open fire I had the room all to myself.
Gosh I felt like a princess in my very own magical castle. My peace was quickly shattered as two ladies loudly entered my tranquil moment! I could have put on my best posh Edinburgh accent and requested ‘please ladies…hush’ but rather than make a scene I shot them my best not impressed look and headed off to my massage.
Treatments done and all packed ready to go, we settled the bill and headed for lunch. I was slightly disappointed that we needed to be out the rooms and settled the bill by 12noon although we were given a slight extension due to treatment times and lunch was served after bills were settled.
After an amazing three course lunch and failing to convince the staff to let us move in, we even offered to live in the shed! it was time to head home.
3 bottles of bubbly down we headed home feeling relaxed, pampered, talking about the great time we had and wishing we had booked two nights.
I asked the girls to sum up the experience in three words. “Worth every penny” “extra special pampering” “no kids allowed” #peace “amazing. Hilarious. Unforgettable”. My three words are “I’ll be back!”
We booked the 1 night stay at the amazing price of £109pp based on two sharing for dinner, bed, breakfast, lunch and full use of facilities. Treatments were added on top, a full treatment menu is available on the website.
